To load a chart template in NinjaTrader 8, follow these concise steps. Note that templates are specific to the type of chart (Instrument, Bar Type, and Period) they were originally saved with.

How to Load a Chart Template

  1. Open a Chart: If you don't have one open, go to New > Chart in the Control Center.
  2. Right-Click: Click anywhere on the active chart.
  3. Select Templates: Hover over Templates in the menu.
  4. Click Load: Select Load... from the sub-menu.
  5. Choose Your Template: Pick the template name from the list and click Load.

Where to Place Template Files Manually

If you have downloaded a .xml template file from a friend or the internet, you need to place it in the correct folder before it will show up in the "Load" list:

  1. Close NinjaTrader.
  2. Navigate to: Documents\NinjaTrader 8\templates\Chart\
  3. Paste the .xml file into this folder.
  4. Restart NinjaTrader.

IssueSolution
Template not appearingEnsure the file is in the \templates\Chart\ folder and ends in .xml.
Indicators missingA template only stores settings. If the template uses a custom indicator (DLL or script) that you haven't installed yet, the chart will load but the indicator will be invisible.
Wrong Bar StyleSome templates are hard-coded to specific bar types (like Renko or Tick). If the chart looks "broken," try changing your data series to match the original template's intent.
